When I think of Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort I start to feel really happy feelings. Let me tell you why. Have you ever arrived one day early for a hotel reservation? Of course you haven’t! Do you know who has, though? Me.
Now, before you are quick to judge me, let me explain. I arrived in Chiang Mai a few weeks ago with a happy heart and an eagerness to eat all of the local fare that I possibly could. I accomplished this feat, much to the demise of my stomach and internal organs. Yep, I got food poisoning in Thailand.
There was one good thing that was great in my life, though. James and I had booked a room at the Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort earlier that week. Due to the fact that I was so ill, I completely mixed up my days and decided to reserve a red truck to take us out to the resort later that afternoon. What I hadn’t realized is that we would arrive at the stunning property an entire day early. Oops.
Lucky for us, the staff at Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort are more than accommodating. They were incredibly understanding of the mistake on my behalf and accommodated us regardless. We were greeted by Charles, the resort’s general manager, who was hospitable and welcomed us with a big smile. After a pleasant conversation with Charles, a staff member took James and I to our private villa on a golf cart to rest in our room.
Our Private Pool Villa at Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort
When we walked into our private pool villa, I can honestly say the room took our breaths away. Seriously guys, this room is a place that I’ve dreamt about before. The large, wooden doors led us to a spacious room, fully equipped with a king-sized bed, a window daybed, a refrigerator and huge, French doors that opened up to the sizeable private pool on the deck.
I spent the rest of the afternoon recovering from my illness next to this pool. I felt so relaxed and it was ultimately the best place that I could have possibly imagined to recuperate and recollect. I was pleasantly surprised when a staff member knocked on the door and presented us with a plate of delicious fresh fruit! It was such a kind gesture and just shows how amazing the staff at this resort truly are.
That evening we went to the main area for dinner. Since both of us were not in the mood for Thai food after the bout of illness, James ordered a Hawaiian pizza as his main dish and I chose a penne pasta dish with marinara sauce. We both shared a Caesar salad which was fresh and well-presented. We were both pleased to find the food was priced well within reason – especially for a resort of its caliber and the high-quality of the fare. We tucked in early for the night as I still wasn’t feeling my best, ensuring that I was well-rested for the following day.
Why I loved the grounds of Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort
We spent the next day exploring the grounds of the resort as well as lounging by our private pool. While walking through the area, I found it easy to understand how the vacation spot has earned its nickname “Heaven in the Hills.” The beautifully designed villas and spa center are conveniently located on a mountain ridge surrounded by peaceful ponds, teak trees and lush, green hills, making it the perfect weekend getaway. In fact, I loved Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort so much that I almost asked Charles if I could move in!
One of the most unique aspects to the resort was the fact that each of the buildings are a combination of Lanna and Ayudhaya style designs. The integration of modern and traditional design is something that I found to be so inviting and special and definitely a memorable anecdote. While we were visitors at the resort, a group of architecture students from a local college stopped by to observe and study the buildings, which I thought was really neat.
One of my favorite spaces in the entire resort was the spa. While I personally didn’t spend lots of time in the area, I was taken aback with how peaceful and warm the entire atmosphere was. The calming space is certainly somewhere that I wanted to escape into for a very long time. The spa is actually world-renowned, which is something that didn’t surprise me at all! The Ministry of Health-certified resort is has not only been awarded by the SGS for Thai Spa Excellence, but it’s also been a winner of the Thailand Tourism Awards in 2013 and 2015.
There was plenty to do in addition to just relax in the spa or by the pool. There are spaces for other activities such as billiards and darts. The resort even has a gigantic chess board! Unfortunately, we didn’t see many people participating in the activities aside from billiards and the massive chess set, but I think mainly that’s because the guests were more interested in the relaxing amenities Panviman has to offer. One space that I certainly used was the poolside gym. The space offers a treadmill, weight lifting stations, three yoga mats and dumbbells ranging from 5 kg. to 30 kg. I love myself a good arm workout, so I used the dumbbells as well as the yoga mat to do a few sets of mountain climbers and burpees to get my energy back up after feeling so weak from my illness.
The food at Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort
As I mentioned earlier, the quality of the food at this place is top notch. James and I ordered the Caesar salad two nights in a row, so you can imagine how delicious it is. I really enjoyed the breakfast set-up at Panviman, too. The buffet-style spread offered Western fare as well as Thai cuisine. It was wonderful to start each day off with a colorful plate of fruit, fresh pot of Oolong tea and anything else of my choosing.
One morning I chose beans on toast (something I would have NEVER imagined eating as a meal until I started dating a British man!) and some fresh veggies. James opted for a fried egg from a station that made eggs or pancakes + waffles for guests. I loved the thoughtfulness that went into making the food.
My overall experience at Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort
I would stay here again in a heartbeat. This space is such a relaxing location just outside of the Chiang Mai city limits, making it perfect for anyone who wants a quiet getaway for a bit. There are plenty of rooms available ranging in affordability and amenities, but I’d have to say I think the private pool villas are the best property the resort has to offer! Great news: there will be more room choices available in October or November 2016, so keep your calendars open if you’re looking to travel to Chiang Mai during this time!
Although I was a complimentary guest at the Panviman Chiang Mai Spa Resort, all opinions are my own.
Have you ever stayed somewhere in which you immediately fell in love? I’d love to know!
