I fell in love with a neighborhood, you guys. I’m not sure if it was the bold street art or the dizzying vintage patterns lining the streets, but Shoreditch completely captured me. Out of all the neighborhoods in London, this progressive, funky, multicultural area felt like somewhere I could thrive someday. As soon as I become a millionaire.
It’s also home to The Hoxton Shoreditch, one of the unique boutique London hotels I’ve ever seen.
The Hoxton is the type of hotel that would make any hipster blush. The 210-bedroom hotel comes equipped with a library, photo booth, and – of course – an incredible restaurant and bar. The common area’s decor is a perfect blend of fresh, contemporary elements and relics of bygone eras.
Simply put: I loved this hotel.
I am a sucker for aesthetics and warm, inviting environments. While The Hoxton’s main lobby seemed to be primarily utilized as a meeting space for young professionals, it evoked a sense of folksy ambiance that felt like home. In fact, I’m pretty sure I envisioned my future house to include a similar fusion of neutral hues and kaleidoscopic patterns on a Pinterest board at one point.
No modern hotel would be complete without a top-notch restaurant; The Hoxton Grill didn’t disappoint. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to indulge in the lunch or dinner options, the breakfast was incredible.
It’s worth noting that those who are keen on a smaller breakfast can take advantage of the free option. When you check in, the staff will give you a small take away bag. From there, it’s up to you to mark the time you’d like your meal; it’s a simple selection of banana, granola, and orange juice. Coffee and tea are free in the room 24/7. In true British fashion, each room comes with an electric kettle.
The Hoxton Grill also has a full-service bar and is said to be one of the hottest spots in town on the weekends. The lounge features an in-house DJ on Friday and Saturday nights, creating a perfect ambiance to enjoy cocktails with friends or fellow travelers. It’s not common one happens upon a hotel that also happens to be a late-night weekend favorite!
Attention North American beer lovers: The Hoxton Grill serves Lagunitas IPA. This is not a drill.
Another unique quirk to this swank Shoreditch spot is the fact that there’s a photo booth in the lobby. Unfortunately, James and I didn’t have enough time to utilize it, but I imagine it would have looked something like this:
Our room was cozy and modern with a touch of urban flair. I’d never slept in a bed that was completely square; we couldn’t figure out which side to put the pillows! Once we sorted our lives out we settled in and watched Gogglebox for the first time and enjoyed listening to the different accents. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the television show selection in the U.K. surpasses the USA all day, every day.
Anywho, the bed was super comfortable. What’s that phrase? Snug as a bug in a rug? Ya.
I forgot to get a photo of the bathroom (sorry, y’all), but it was super cute and had a rain shower head. Who doesn’t want to feel like they’re the star of a shampoo commercial while showering? Speaking of shampoo, The Hoxton uses their own brand of shampoo and conditioner. Yep. You read that correctly. What *doesn’t* this place offer?
What was my overall impression of The Hoxton Shoreditch?
Everything about my experience was pretty breezy. The check-in process was quick, the hotel was easy to navigate and the staff was pleasant and warm. I can’t really complain. 10/10 would stay here again in a heartbeat.
There was one thing that could have made the experience better, though.
The receptionist handed me the breakfast take away bag upon check in but didn’t explain what it was. While it was essentially self-explanatory, it would have been nice to know its purpose from the get-go. At any rate, this was in no way a setback and certainly didn’t taint the experience one bit!
Have you visited this charming neighborhood or have upcoming plans? Any other tips for where to stay in London? Definitely try to check this place out!
